Career Development Workshops - For the many job seekers who need new skills for entering the workforce, our short-term career workshops provide quality information in a variety of subjects, including resume writing, successful interviewing, job search and career planning, basic computer operation, word processing, and internet searching. We also offer early intervention job readiness workshops for unemployment insurance claimants who want to return to work.

Individual Training Accounts - MontgomeryWorks can provide Individual Training Account vouchers for adult and dislocated workers to purchase occupational skills training from providers selected in consultation with their case managers. The training focuses on high-demand industry sectors, such as information technology, biotechnology, health care, construction, and retail, sales, and service-as well as basic literacy and language skills. At MontgomeryWorks, eligible candidates can gain the training and certifications required by local employers. You may be eligible for one of the following:

  1. Training and certifications through Montgomery College and other local career schools
  2. English as a second language classes
  3. Technology and healthcare training
  4. Sales and customer service training
  5. GED, Adult High School Diploma, and other continuing education programs
  6. Apprenticeship programs

Our workshops offer insight and information into every part of a job search. From choosing your next career step to learning how to negotiate for a higher salary, MontgomeryWorks has a workshop to help elevate your search.

Job Readiness Workshops

  1. What do you want to do with your life? Take a career assessment that will measure your likes and dislikes. Then, compare the results to professionals in various careers.
  2. Successful Job Search and Career Planning. Set goals, identify, organize, and communicate your interests, values, and skills to find the best fit for you.
  3. Resume Writing Parts I and II. Learn the key ingredients to a well-written resume and cover letter. Discover the key information that will make your resume stand out.
  4. Successful Interviewing and Salary Negotiation. Learn how to prepare for an interview. Find out the types of questions that are asked and how to answer them. Then, learn the best tips to significantly increase your salary.
  5. Job Search Readiness for Ex-Offenders. This one-day workshop will offer skills assessment, application instruction, and tips for how to handle the “offense” question. At the end of this workshop, you will have a complete job search portfolio to begin a job search the following day.
  6. Veterans Job Search Workshop. This two-day workshop offers hands-on assistance to unemployed veterans. Learn how to use the resources of the One Stop Center, identify employment goals, discover barriers to employment and strategies for overcoming them. Veterans will also research jobs, develop networking strategies, revise resumes, and learn techniques for submitting applications.

Computer Workshops

  1. Introduction to Personal Computing. Learn basic computing concepts for PCs including hardware and software terminology.
  2. Microsoft Windows 2000 Introduction. For novice PC users, build a solid foundation of knowledge including using the desktop, taskbar, my computer, Explorer, and more.
  3. Microsoft Word 2000 Introduction. Learn how to use Office Assistant, basic document skills, check spelling and grammar, and much more with this introductory workshop.
  4. Online Learning Center Orientation. Learn to use this self-paced internet-based tool for developing or upgrading your computer skills. Available lessons cover software including Access, Excel, FrontPage, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word. A valid email address is required for this workshop.
  5. Introduction to the Internet. Discover basic features of internet exploration including how to “surf” using correct URLs, hyperlinks, and other search engines. This course also covers electronic mail and attaching resumes to an e-mail message.
